September 2013 Chairman’s Note

Hello SAE Milwaukee Section Members and Friends,

I hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying the beautiful weather we have had.

As many of you might have seen, SAE International unveiled its new branding in June. With the new branding comes a more modern image in line with the changing face of engineering and what the society stands for. At over 138,000 members worldwide, SAE International is the premier society for mobility engineering worldwide, and part of the new branding is to continue to build that image for global recognition.

On the local level, our Governing Board for the upcoming year was voted in at our June meeting and I congratulate all of those who were chosen for a position. We are always looking for new faces to help out. If you have an interest, please contact any of our board members and we will be more than happy to help you get involved at any level you desire. The hard work and dedication of our past Governing Board has kept the Milwaukee section alive and vibrant and is recognized as a premier section by SAE International.

The new Governing Board has been hard at work planning the events for this coming year. Our opening meeting will be a dynamite meeting with an in depth look at the new C7 Corvette. Presenting at this meeting will be the legendary Dave McLellan and this will certainly not be a meeting you will want to miss.

Please mark your calendars and be sure to register early for this meeting. You will not want to miss it!

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in September.

May 2013 Chairman’s Note

Dear Members and Section Friends,

Many thanks to Holz Chevrolet for hosting a fantastic April section meeting on the Chevy Volt! GM Powertrain instructor Bill Weaton captivated the audience as he described the electric drive system. The Volt meeting was part 2 of our electric vehicle series, following April’s Section meeting on vehicle battery technology at Johnson Controls. Join us at the finale, part 3, on Sonex’s electric aircraft.

Don’t forget to buy your discounted tickets for the June Sprint races at Road America. Logon to the event registration online at milwaukeesae.org to purchase your tickets.

The 2012-2013 SAE calendar year ends on May 31st. The Section board member officer elections will be finalized at this month’s governing board meeting. After serving for three years as Chairman, I will relinquish my position and continue to serve our organization as past chair. I’ve sincerely enjoyed the experience, and look forward to continue building relationships with our section.

And finally, enjoy your summer! I look forward to seeing you at our September kickoff event on the new C7 Corvette.

Best regards,

Jim Ryan

Chairman – Milwaukee Section
