The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s College of Engineering has a history that dates back to 1848, when the college was established, and the first formal civil engineering course was offered in 1856. In 1857, the university Board of Regents created the first engineering department and hired the first engineering professor, Colonel W. R. Pease, in 1868. The Morrill Act of 1862, which required land-grant colleges to teach mechanical arts, led to the founding of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in 1870. The college has eight academic departments and is considered one of the top engineering schools in the United States. In 2023-2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked the college’s graduate engineering program 27th nationally and its undergraduate program 13th. The college’s alumni include astronauts, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and others who have influenced world achievements such as the Hoover Dam, the Panama Canal, and the development of the integrated circuit.
We are a thriving, top-ranked college in Madison, Wisconsin—one of the best cities in the country. We think boldly and act confidently, not only as engineers, but as engaged citizens.
Keynote Presenters – H3X:

H3X was founded in 2020 by a team of UW-Madison engineers: Jason Sylvestre – CEO, Max Liben – CTO, Eric Maciolek – President
H3X is an advanced technology and electric motor manufacturing company based in Denver, Colorado. Their team brings together driven minds from aerospace, automotive, and motorsports with deep knowledge in electric machines, power electronics, material science, and advanced manufacturing. They are heavily vertically integrated: designing, manufacturing, and testing their integrated motor drives under one roof at their 17,000 sq-ft headquarters facility. The mission of the company is to become the world’s leading supplier of advanced electric motors by 2030 to drive deep decarbonization in aviation, marine, and heavy industrial applications and unlock next-generation electrified defense technology to strengthen national security.
Eric, Max, and Jason, all alumni of UW’s Formula SAE program, will share their journey from starting the FSAE Electric team to securing internships at companies like Tesla and SpaceX and attending grad school at WEMPEC. They’ll discuss how this experience ultimately led them to founding H3X, going through the Y Combinator startup accelerator, raising over $30M in venture capital funding, and securing contracts with NASA, Air Force, and other leading companies in aerospace and defense.
Student Displays:
SAE Milwaukee Section Student Chapter Collegiate Design Series competition vehicles will be on display and student representatives will be present to interact with guests. This is an opportunity for each chapter to showcase the efforts of their chapter throughout the past year. Come see the amazing projects the students design and build through the year!

Presentations:
Student chapter representatives will articulate on their chapters’ projects, achievements, and activities. Professional members have the opportunity to rate the presentations. This is one of the biggest nights for the student chapters, as they have the opportunity to earn significant funds for their projects, based on Industry Professionals Judging their Presentations. Zoom link will be available/shared for presenting remotely.

Location & Parking:
Student night will be held at the Engineering Centers Building at 1550 Engineering Drive, Madison, WI 53706
There is a parking structure on Engineering Drive before you get to the Engineering Centers Building. Credit Card Payment Required.
