SUMMARY:2020 Clean Snowmobile Challenge
DESCRIPTION:As February draws to a close that means we are just around the corner form the SAE Annual Clean Snowmobile Challenge in the Keweenaw Peninsula where they currently have had over 150 inches of snow this year.  \n\n\n\nAbout Clean Snowmobile Challenge:\n\n\n\nThe SAE International Clean\nSnowmobile Challenge (CSC) program is an engineering design competition for\nundergraduate and graduate students. The program provides participants with the\nopportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills\nby applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition that tests\ntheir designs to reengineer an existing snowmobile to reduce emissions and\nnoise. Participants’ modified snowmobiles will compete in a variety of events\nincluding emissions\, noise\, fuel economy/endurance\, acceleration\, handling\,\nstatic display\, cold start and design. \n\n\n\nThe CSC Rules Committee makes\nchanges to the competition each year to keep the competition fresh and to\npresent new engineering challenges. CSC is primarily an “engine” competition\nhowever the underlying theme has remained consistent to engineer a clean and\nquiet trail sled. Current trail sleds are engineered to these standards\, but it\nis possible to achieve more. Noise levels can be reduced\, and cleaner fuels can\nlead to lower emissions. \n\n\n\nHow to get Involved:\n\n\n\nThe Milwaukee Section of SAE is responsible for helping with this event\, including judging reports written by the collegiate teams entering the competition. Your SAE Milwaukee Section needs you to help judge reports. To volunteer to judge papers\, please contact Jay Meldrum (jmeldrum@mtu.edu). Judges typically read a minimum of four reports in the category they are most comfortable with (IC engines or electric). There are also volunteer opportunities during the competition. He also pioneered the HT brand of Lean design & manufacturing tagged; “Win” short for “World Class Excellence in Business.  \n\n\n\nMike will share how the HellermannTyton landscape looks today\, and in the future\, from an engineering perspective. \n\n\n\nMelissa goecks – Validation and Reliability Testing Supervisor\n\n\n\n Melissa has worked in the HT Validation & Reliability laboratory for eight years. She has ten years in product development laboratory experience overall and serves on test standards committees including the United States Council of Automotive Research (USCAR) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
