March 2016 Chairman’s Note

Greetings Milwaukee SAE Section Members and Friends!

I hope this month’s newsletter finds you well. February has drawn to a close with an occasional warm day here and there, a lot of us may already have Spring on our minds. If you are looking for one last dose of snow and winter fun, consider heading up the SAE Clean Snow Challenge on March 7th through the 12th at the Keweenaw Research Center in Houghton Michigan. There will be lots of snow, student teams from around the world, and plenty of great competition. It’s a great way to enjoy the last of winter before we head into spring.

We had a good turnout for our event at Midwest Composites and got to see some of the latest in rapid prototyping technology first hand. If you missed this event, please check our webpage or Facebook page for pictures.

Our March Event will be held at Signicast in Hartford. Signicast is a world-class supplier of investment cast metal components and this month we get to see the world of investment casting up close and personal. Please be sure to join us as this will be an event you do not want to miss.

The Milwaukee SAE Section is continuing our Shadow and STEM/AWIM initiatives. If you are contemplating becoming more involved and think you might like a board position next year, now is a great time to shadow a board member and see what helping run our section is all about. Elections for the Governing Board happen at the end of May and we have begun the process of looking for candidates to fill some current positions as well as a few new positions we’d like to add in the upcoming year. Additionally, we are always looking for people to become involved and help bring engineering to grade school and high school kids. Please see any board member at an event or contact any of us directly to see how you can become involved.

I look forward to seeing you all at the March Event!

Garrett Herning

SAE Milwaukee Section – Chairman
